The collapse of public education is a calamity. Education is the primary ladder of merit and upward mobility. It used to be available to the meritorious poor through state institutions. No more. Simple questions arise: is it possible for a poor Pakistani, to educate his children even up-to 10th class? No! Is it possible for this Pakistani to even imagine a better future for his children? No!
The Government alone can’t be liable to be committed to reduce burden of poverty and ignorance through education. Poverty is not merely income deprivation but it is situation which restricts, political and social needs which are essential for a respectful living. Poor are not only deprived of financial resources but they are denied access of basic needs such as education. The poor can only over come the poverty trap through education. One of the painful experiences of poor governance in the past has been low investment in education.
A comprehensive policy should be made to bring more children, boys and girls to schools and currently nearly half school going children i.e. about 5 out of 11, are not attending the school mainly due to poverty. Difference schemes are desired to promote education, as illiteracy and ignorance has cause violation of Human Rights and other social issues like early child hood marriages, Karo Kari (Honour killing) and child labour etc.
Merit based scholarships should also be provided to be utilized for supporting poor but meritorious students for higher education.
It is an important job what we should ensure that no one should be denied the right for further education due to poverty. Your proper support in this noble cause would make a huge difference in fight against ignorance and poverty.
